Mac Taylor/Stella Bonasera (CSI:NY)
They shared their first kiss that one night in the hospital, where they had been waiting for a sign that Don Flack would be okay, sitting together in a brightly lit hospital, the smell of antiseptic clinging not only to the building and furniture, but also to them. Stella had left to get more coffee, and the nurse had told Mac that he could go and sit with Don for a few minutes, and when they met again, not ten minutes later, Mac was smiling slightly, just a twitching of the corners of his mouth, but it was enough for Stella to understand, to know that everything would be okay. Still, Mac had to say the words, if only to keep the joy from exploding out of his chest like a bomb, and saying it would make it more real, he was sure.
“He squeezed my hand, Stella,” he said, surprised by the catch and the slight waver in his own voice, and the tiredness and pain plaguing him. “He squeezed my hand.”
Stella smiled widely and carefully put the Styrofoam cups she was still holding down, and then her arms were wrapped tightly around Mac’s neck, warm and comfortable.
And suddenly, everything was different as their lips met.
