He poked at it. It was purple. Not greenish, not yellow, not red. Purple.
Sheldon patted his shoulder reassuringly. “Don’t worry.”
Don frowned and poked again. It hadn’t changed its color in the last ten seconds, and it didn’t magically disappear.
“Stop that,” Danny said and pushed his glasses back up his nose. “It won’t go away just because you want it to.”
“Besides, it’s not dangerous. It’s not as if your leg would suddenly fall off because of it,” Sheldon added calmly.
Don looked up sharply. “What?”
“Relax,” Sheldon said with a smile. “It’s nothing. It’s just a bruise.”

Danny stepped back into the kitchen. “What? Why?” he asked and pulled his jacket on over his shirt.
“It’s brown,” Don said and grimaced. “It looks a bit like dried blood.”
Danny shook his head. He turned off the stove, grabbed his crime scene kit and pushed Don out of the door. “And for your information: You, my friend, are a very sick man.”
Don shrugged dismissively. “So, what was that?”
Danny gave him a wide smile before he replied:
“Hot chocolate!”

He had wrapped a green scarf around his neck. He didn’t have to work – they gave him a few days off. He didn’t complain. He sat on the couch, his knees drawn up to his chest, his arms wrapped around them, and contemplated life and death.
He remembered the press of the blade against his throat, the pain when the maggot had jerked slightly backwards when Mac had shot him, causing the red line over his throat, like a necklace. He remembered clenching his hand in Mac’s shirt and not letting go.
Mac’s shirt had been green. Green, like hope.

Danny’s eyebrow shot up when he saw Don, but he bit his tongue and didn’t say anything about the paint-splattered shirt.
“Don't call me pink panther…” Don growled, in a half-warning, as soon as he saw Danny, and briskly pulled off his tie and shirt.
Danny lost his fight against the smile. “But Don, you’re allergic to cats.”
“Yeah, so?”
“Panthers are cats.”
“And?” Don dropped his shirt to the floor and grabbed a clean t-shirt.
Danny only shrugged. “You’d be allergic to yourself.”
Don grimaced – and sneezed.
Danny chuckled and patted his shoulder. “Bless you,” he said, “Pink Panther.”

Anger, he had read somewhere, was associated with red, the color of blood, like most of strong negative emotions. A red haze that followed you everywhere you turned.
That was not true, he now discovered. He felt anger and disappointment, and a bit jealousy, but he didn’t see anything red. No. Instead, the world had lost all color it had. Everything looked washed out, like his favorite t-shirt, before he’d finally thrown it away. Maybe he should throw this away, too? But “this” was his whole life, and he didn’t know yet if he was willing to give it up.
