It was such a strange sight, and every CSI and lab tech stopped what they were doing to turn their heads after them and watch as Crime Scene Investigator Danny Messer, with a determined expression on his face, dragged a loudly protesting and generally unwilling Homicide Detective Don Flack jr. through the corridors towards Mac's office.

Danny's hand was clutched tightly into the material of Don's sleeve, and he didn't release him, no matter how much Don resisted and fought his grip. Of course Danny knew that he had the advantage of knowing that Don would never intentionally hurt him, but still, every step was a struggle.
Mac's office was deserted, and Danny stopped with a frown.

"Where is Mac?" he asked loudly and directed a glare at the lab techs who suddenly remembered that they had important work to do - elsewhere. "Where?" he repeated dangerously.

The Death Stare he had stolen from Mac and practiced in front of the mirror worked. Jane pointed in the general direction of the trace lab. "Thank you," Danny directed another glare at all the other techs and gave Jane a brief smile.

"Lindsay's there, too," she added.

Everybody knew about the rivalry between Danny and Lindsay, although nobody was really sure where it came from. It was obvious that Mac loved Danny, even without the gestures of casual affection they sometimes shared when they were sure that nobody was looking.

It was always innocently enough, like a pat on a shoulder after a job well done, absolutely unsuspicious, but the people around them knew about it - it had been Danny who had given the relationship away, when, after pulling another triple and after finally cracking a case that had kept them on their toes for three weeks straight, had stumbled towards Mac, with deep, dark shadows under his eyes, a case file in a hand, and a smile on his pale, too pale face. He had tripped, and Mac had caught him and didn't release him, and they were hugging in the middle of the lab and in front of literally every member of the CSU. When Stella had entered Mac's office three hours later, to report the arrest, she found Mac kneeling in front of the couch, a hand stroking through Danny's hair, trying to wake him up to get him home and into bed. Since that day it was common knowledge that Danny and Mac were in a relationship, and nobody ever mentioned it again.

Obviously nobody had told Lindsay, and the whole lab waited with bated breath for her to find out - or Danny's reaction to her constant flirting with Mac. Everybody remembered the woman who had invited Mac to have a drink, and the explosion that had followed that episode.
A lot of them had placed bets that the relationship was over then, as they did after the whole Aiden-affair, but somehow Danny and Mac had managed to catch themselves, and everything seemed back to normal.

And then Lindsay had come, and she set Danny's teeth on edge, and nothing Mac was saying or doing seemed to convince him that Mac would not fall in love with Lindsay and leave Danny.

Danny tightened his jaw slightly. "That's good," he informed them and tugged at Don's arm. "Come on, let's go."

"No!" Don hissed, but Danny yanked hard and Don had the choice to either follow him or lose his arm. Since he liked his arm where it was, it wasn't really a choice.

Danny heard someone mumble: "That doesn't look good," and another demanded: "Pay up!" and he felt a moment of irritation, but he pushed it away. There was something else he needed to do.

Everybody was aware of the fact that Danny thought of Lindsay as a leech, clinging to Mac and sucking his blood, and everybody remembered his rant about her stalking Mac after the case with the glue mask. He didn't understand how Mac could put up with Lindsay, and he had murmured something about asking Don if her actions could be seen as stalking or not. Mac had
only laughed and touched his hand briefly, and nobody believed Danny's threat of asking Don about the specifics of stalking.

"What are you doing, Messer?" Don hissed when Danny pushed him into the
trace lab, where Lindsay and Sheldon were analyzing a piece of evidence,
under the supervision of both Stella and Mac.

It was a piece from a high profile murder case, Danny knew as much, and he understood the importance of it, but this situation had to be cleared first, once and for all. The evidence could wait - they would probably find more of it, and even if not, but this couldn't. He pushed Don another step forwards and closed the door behind them, pretending not to see the curious faces on the other side of the glass wall, or, if he saw them, choosing to ignore
them.

Don glared at him and straightened his jacket. "You're nuts, Messer!" he stated. "This is bordering on harassment."

Danny folded his arms in front of his chest. "Maybe, although I tend more to neglect," he allowed. "But I found Mac. Here he is. Do it. Now!"

"Do what?" Mac dared to interrupt their staring match - obviously Don had practiced, too - while the others stood back for the moment, shell-shocked by their behavior.

"I'm not doing anything!" Don hissed at Danny.

"Okay." Danny turned towards Mac and stretched out an arm to stop Don from storming out of the lab. "Mac, you do it."

"Do what?" Mac frowned.

Danny rolled his eyes. "Do I need to spell it out? Kiss him!"

"What?" Don squeaked nervously and took an involuntary step back. "You have lost your mind!"

"No, I haven't."

"Danny...that's not a good idea," Mac said quietly. "I'm in the middle of..."

"For heaven's sake!" Danny exploded. "Just give him a damn kiss! He's more important than some stupid piece of evidence! Evidence can wait! It doesn't have legs! It doesn't try to run away from you because it feels unloved!" He stomped his foot petulantly. "I'm sure that Stella is more than capable of watching them handle sensitive evidence!"

Stella nodded immediately. "Of course. Go ahead, Mac."

Mac didn't even turn to look at her. "You tried to run?" he asked, all attention focused on Don.

"No," Don answered defensively. "I'm fine, and everything would be okay if not for a certain paranoid, jealous someone who dragged me away from work to embarrass me in front of the whole crime lab!" He stopped and gesticulated angrily.

Danny glared at him. "You are not fine! Don't lie to me, Don Flack!" He whirled around to face Mac. "He didn't sleep the last few nights, he doesn't allow you or me near him for more than a few minutes, and don't tell me you didn't notice that suddenly he's always working late and never has time for us?"

He took his glasses off and rubbed his eyes with a weary sigh. All anger seemed to have left him, and he looked very tired suddenly.

"I'm not losing him just because your priorities are all screwed up," he said softly. "Not him, too."

"All right." Stella clapped her hands suddenly. "That's it. Mac, you go now and have lunch with your boys - it seems like you have a serious problem here you need to talk about."

Mac blinked. "What about?"

"We'll handle the evidence," she cut him off. "You can repay me later by telling me all the details."

"Details?" Mac finally turned his head a fraction towards her.

"About them! Mac, we only knew about you and Danny! Since when are you a
threesome?"

Mac suddenly stepped back from the table and snapped off his gloves. He ignored Stella's question and focused back on Don. "It's been a while I've done this in public," he declared softly. "Danny is usually the one for public displays of affection."

Don swallowed. "I know," he said stiffly and glared at Danny. "It's fine, really, Mac."

Danny huffed somewhere in the background, but neither of them turned towards him.

"I know that Danny's jealous - but you?" Mac continued.

"I'm not jealous."

"You know I love you. Both of you," Mac said. He watched as a small smile appeared on Don's face, and he heard the satisfied sound Danny made.

They needed to talk about Danny's insecurities, about Don's pulling back, about his own blindness, but that could wait. For now, there was only one thing Mac needed to do.

He stepped forwards, cradled Don's head in his hands and, ignoring the gasp of surprise from Lindsay or the cheer from the techs still standing outside the lab, pressed his lips to Don's. Don made a small sound of protest, and Mac used the opportunity to slide his tongue in his mouth, gliding along the sharp edge of teeth and the rough texture of Don's tongue. Don relaxed between his hands, and started to kiss back. His tongue touched Mac's softly, shyly, then, when Mac made an encouraging noise in the back of his throat, bolder, until he had taken control of the kiss.

Mac allowed it for a moment before taking control over the kiss back and gentling it. He ended
the kiss slowly.

"You think you're okay now?" he murmured against Don's lips.

Don shrugged and leaned against him. "Don't know yet...kiss me again?"

And Mac did.

The End.
