“Mr. Wolfe.”
Ryan looked up and squinted to focus on the person in front of him.
“Horatio,” he greeted calmly.
He knew perfectly well that he wasn’t supposed to be here. He’d just been released from the hospital, after all, and he should be at home. But Eric had picked him up, and he had some evidence he needed to bring in before he could give Ryan a lift home, and since they would be on their way in a minute, Ryan had just laughed and had sent Eric on his way to find Calleigh.
Horatio cocked his head to the side. “How are you?” he asked quietly and took off his sunglasses. Bright blue eyes focused on him, and Ryan had to swallow against the sudden tightness in his throat.
“I’m…” He coughed. “It’s going to be okay,” he then said with a confidence he didn’t feel.
Horatio nodded and took a step closer. “Good,” he murmured and reached out. His fingertips glided along Ryan’s arm, then his hand entwined with Ryan’s and squeezed gently.
“You scared me there,” he whispered and took a quick look around. Nobody was there to pay attention to what he did, so he took another step closer.
“Sorry, Horatio,” Ryan muttered, but half of his words were swallowed by Horatio’s mouth, pressing suddenly and unexpectedly against his. Horatio’s tongue slipped between his lips and teased gently along the edge of his teeth.
Finally, after long moments, they pulled apart.
Horatio looked around again and slipped on his sunglasses. Only seconds later, Eric walked up to them, and the corners of Horatio’s mouth curved into an almost invisible smile.
“You ready to go?” Eric asked Ryan, who was still too shocked to do anything but nod.
Horatio gave him another small smile, full of promises Ryan wasn’t sure of deserving, and then they were on their way out.
“Mr. Wolfe!” Horatio called after them, and when Ryan turned around and looked at him questioningly, he added: “Get well soon.”
Ryan laughed.
