The first reason why Eliot Spencer had broken his golden rule of One Show Only, No Encores was because the Leverage-team was doing good things. They were actually helping people who deserved something better than what they had, people that had been wronged, and maybe, the Leverage-team even managed to bring some kind of justice to the world.

Eliot had seen a lot of bad in his life and he had done a lot that he wasn't proud of. He didn't regret all of the things he'd done, definitely not those that had helped save his life and hone his skills.

He just couldn't make himself feel sorry for wanting to live.

It still felt good to be on the other side for once. He didn't think there was something like an eternal balance of good and evil he could reach - what he'd done, he couldn't take back - but a small part of him, the part that had been brought up with a clear distinction of good and bad, was glad about this chance.

Plus, the job paid really well.

The second reason why he stayed was because he respected Nate Ford.

At first, it was just a kind of grudging professional respect, mostly based on what he heard about the man, but he soon added personal experiences into his mosaic of feelings toward Nate.

There was no chance he would let the opportunity to work with Nate slip away, and the more time went by, the more layers were added to his mental picture of the man, more facets and dimensions until it was crowned by a tight, mutual friendship.

The third reason was Sophie. He still couldn't watch any of her attempts of acting on a stage without suffering almost physical pain, but he'd grown to trust her instincts and abilities when it came to grifting. Sophie was one of the best at what she was doing, and she was more than willing to teach him a thing or two.

Still, he sometimes suspected Sophie to having used her neural programming skills to convince him to stay and settling down somewhat.

Sophie always acted very innocent and almost offended when he hinted at it, but Eliot was sure that he was right. She had tried to con them before, there was nothing to make sure she had left it at that one time.

The fourth reason was Parker.

Eliot still believed her to be twenty pound of crazy in a five pound bag, but there was something about her, something in her unique mix of ruthless, talented thief and naive, almost child-like person that had slowly started to make him care about her.

She made him feel like a big brother.

He couldn't help it, he felt like he had to do something, to protect her and to make sure she ate something different from fortune cookies and sugar cereal.

He wasn't always successful, but he was working on it.

The fifth reason was Hardison.

Alec.

But if anyone ever asked him about why he stayed, he would just glare and huff and not breathe a whisper of what his team, especially the hacker, and their cause, meant to him.

~end.
